What is Tapatio Reposado tequila?
Tapatio Reposado is a tequila more restrained than the Blanco and aged for four months in ex-bourbon barrels, two months longer than required by law. Tapatio Reposado is best enjoyed in a wine glass to enhance the honey and spicy character.
Where is Tapatio Reposado produced?
This tequila is produced at the La Alteña distillery in Jalisco, where generations of the Camarena family have been making tequila, mainly for local consumption. This is a joint project between Carlos Camarena and Marko Karakasevic of Charbay Winery & Distillery in Napa.
How is it taken?
Tapatio Reposado tequila is served at room temperature, it is suitable for several tequila-based cocktails, and in case of drinking alone, it is convenient to follow the steps below:
- Lick the skin between your thumb and index finger. Put some salt on your skin, which should adhere to the moisture left by your saliva.
- With a shot of tequila and a slice of lime in your hand, lick the salt off your hand and take the shot of tequila.
- Suck a slice of lemon after drinking the drink.
Tasting note
Appearance
Tapatio Reposado tequila has a straw yellow color, luminous, with golden and slightly greenish tones. Medium body due to its lower alcohol content.
- Aroma: Fruity, intense, cooked agave, apple, pear, vanilla, caramel, slightly smoky. white pepper is presented in a more subtle form. Breathing becomes creamy with buttery notes. Spices such as clove and sandalwood.
- Flavor: Predominantly sweetness of cooked agave with herbal flavors, pepper, slightly smoky with notes of caramel, cocoa, vanilla and nuts (walnut, peanut, hazelnut). A very smooth and still spicy finish.
- Comment: Drink very well balanced between spicy and sweet flavors. Perfect for a margarita cocktail, but also to be enjoyed straight.
